What I’ve been thinking about lately - monthly subscription eCommerce

Quick post before I move on with my day - I love having time for myself especially on the weekends when my calendar is usually filled with stuff to do, errands to run, people to meet, events to attend, etc. (I make it sound like I’m so much busier than I actually am, but it’s true!)

The more and more I learn about people’s purchasing habits online, it’s actually very interesting. I don’t think I have any tendencies of impulse purchase nor thorough research prior to purchasing anything, but I’m a pretty smart shopper. I try to buy what I need, when I need it, and only if it’s offered at a right price (I guess this leads to frequent impulse purchase “because something is cheap”).

However, over the recent years, I’ve been impressed by how subscription-based e-commerce has emerged and became successful on web. Some examples are the celebrity-endorsed BeachMint and its affiliates and Kim Kardashian-sponsored ShoeDazzle. Both of them offer a personalized monthly subscription of products (not to mention that they are both out of my very own stumping ground Los Angeles). I wasn’t 100% sold on the idea of getting t-shirts or shoes delivered every month to my apartment, but lately, because everyone else is talking about it / doing it, I’m slowly buying into the idea as well.

And it doesn’t stop at clothing items or accessories. People are now getting monthly fruit deliveries, and probably all kinds of other items that is not on my radar (or think any products that needs any kind of replenishment).

To add more twist, Little Black Bag (also from Los Angeles), allows members to trade items in their monthly batch of items with each other. (everyone gets 3 items, 1 item of her choice and the rest are “mystery” items; one-time subscription / trading is possible).

My question here is - how much product diversification will there be in this type of subscription business? Something that I want to think about…

Note on my relationship with God these days…

I’ve always wanted to be a living testimony of God’s existence and love. Although I don’t usually active reach out to “evangelize” or “spread the word of Gospel,” it has been very important to be that at one point, I can really help someone to be in love with God.

There were times in my life where I was obviously not in the best behavior, nor have my behaviors reflected the way God told me to live life (probably the way society would like to define it), but what I am learning these days is that I don’t need to follow any rules or guidelines. It’s always been a struggle to keep up with what I need to do vs. why I ended up not doing it in terms of my “religious obligations.” Lately, I’m more and more convinced that I’m free from them all.

God’s love for me is not something that I need to “work on,” unlike human relationships where meeting each other half way is merited. Why don’t I need to work on it? Because He is the trusted driver of my life.
